Our House in St. Jean de Valeriscle

We purchased our property in November 1998. It's located in the provence of Languedoc, in a very charming town called St. Jean de Valeriscle. Within this town, our house is located in a prime location - in the medieval quarter, where the cobblestone streets are narrow and pedestrianized, between the charming cathedral/town square and the river below. For a detailed map, click here (ours is #315).

The house itself is a "village maison," which means that it is attached to other houses. There is no garden, but there are beautiful views of the river Auzonnet below and mountains opposite. There are many possibilities for a roof terrace overlooking the river or to rent land close to the house for garden use.

The house is roughly 2500 square feet (238 square meters) which is quite large. The house has a new roof, but plumbing is necessary. There is water and electricity up to the house, but they need overhauling and the house needs re-wiring.

There are eight rooms and the building is 3 levels. There are endless possibilities to design the house suited to your own style. Many of the rooms have vaulted ceilings and stone walls. The bottom cellar has an authentic bread oven and is perfect for a wine cellar, art gallery, or you name it! The staircase is also stone. Windows and doors are intact.

The newest towns/cities are St. Ambroix, Ales, Nimes, Uzes, and Avignon is not far away. The surrounding countryside is beautiful for biking, walking, and the town is close enough to serve as a central hub for touring throughout Europe.

Take The Grand Tour and imagine how you would bring out its potential!

These are some classic books about living life to the fullest in Southern France and Northern Italy. These books also celebrate the process of renovating older buildings in this area.
