Children's Book Reviews

Children's books are awesome. For parents, there is almost no better investment in the world. Grown ups will usually read a book like, maybe, once. Whereas children will read their books over and over and over, each time learning more and processing new information. Since there are oodles of children's books in the world, picking the best ones can be a challenge. We thought it would be fun to write reviews of our very favorite children's books. Only the kids books we love the most have been selected.

Go, Dog.Go!
P. D. Eastman

Clearly, I have no choice but to list GO, DOG. GO! as the very first book on the long list of great children's books. It belongs at spot #1 because this was the favorite book of Uncle Sillyhead III's as a child, and one of the primary inspirations for HERE COME THE TICKLE BUGS! This book is marvelously simple but contains a subtle sense of humor in every drawing. It also has a palpable energy that explodes in a spectacular tree party finale! Do you like my hat? Yes, I like that party hat! This book rocks. Thank you P.D. Eastman.

David Wiesner

What can I say? David Wiesner is my idol. The images alone that he creates are enough to tickle readers of any age. Imagine mammoth cabbages floating over Lido's Diner. Imagine dozens of people trying to muscle down a stubborn red bell pepper floating amidst heavenly clouded skies. Imagine a Vermont guacamole crew working like mad to slice up an avocado. This man kills me. You've got to buy it.

He kills me again. If I said anything about this book, it would give away the plot. There are no words in this book - he sets the scene twice, and that's it. His drawings are more than enough to carry this book home and into legendary status in the Tickle Bug Hall of Fame. It is nothing short of AWESOME. Thank you David Wiesner!!!
